The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the scores five minutes after the defender's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to ensure Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing the match official to review the goal on the screen and the referee decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and sit half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of pitch

After a uninspiring midweek display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on goal, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defence, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had netted just one league goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was summed up when he opted to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having room and time to reposition for a simpler shot that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, as well, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly delivered threatening crosses into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: Spurs travel to St James' Park on late October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle.
