Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
