A person who laced sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight children and an older person experienced illness at the location in July.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on recently.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in July 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about the activities, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated the defendant went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.

She stated the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
