Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with French warplanes in a combined operation targeting an underground arms cache in Syrian territory employed by the IS group, per a report from the British defence ministry.
The facility, identified by surveillance, was thought to be storing arms and explosives, the announcement noted, and was situated in mountains just to the north of the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria.
"The RAF jets used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a several access tunnels down to the facility... initial indications suggest the objective was successfully hit," officials stated.
There was no indication of any civilian casualties in the operation late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned safely, the MoD added.
The Typhoon fighters were supported by a Voyager refuelling tanker.

RAF aircraft have performed patrols over Syria to "prevent any attempted comeback" of IS after its military defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the authorities noted.
